paul ryan, is he the leader of the republican party now? >> oh, i wouldn't think so. paul ryan's a policy wonk. >> he's a policy wonk. basically right now i'm still the man. so how does speaker boehner, if he's the man and most reasonable guy in washington, how does he get some of the conservatives, including even paul ryan, a guy who is newly minted in some way with a little bit of juice, to come along? >> i think if you look at how this will actually unfold, you find your answer, tamron. the fact of the matter is a very small number of people will negotiate a deal or not. that includes speaker boehner. it includes majority leader reid and the white house. once they come up with a deal, whatever it looks like, it's going to be subject to an up or down vote. this isn't something you amend and say i'd like to offer an amendment to change that tax bracket. no, no. it's an up or down vote. at that point the pressure on the republican caucus will be overwhelming. you're going to find that plenty of members of congress from the republican party
